Dr. Xu is a postdoctoral scholar in Prof. Marta Gonzalez's group - Human Mobility and Networks (HuMNet) Lab, Department of City and Regional Planning, UC Berkeley. Previous to Berkeley, he was a postdoctoral associate at Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, MIT, from Sep. 2015 to Oct. 2018, a guest postdoctoral fellow in the Energy Analysis and Environmental Impacts Division, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from Dec. 2017 to Oct. 2018. He received the Ph.D. in Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2015 and the M.S. and B.S degrees at Shandong University.
His research interests lie in the fields of data mining, human mobility, urban computing, with particular emphasis placed on the use of massive trajectory data in Urban Science from interdisciplinary perspective. His work has been published in Nature Energy, IJCAI, IEEE Trans. ITS, J. Roy. Soc. Interface, and among others. He is a peer reviewer for Nature Energy, Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, TKDE, IEEE Trans. Mob. Com., IEEE Trans. ITS, IEEE Trans. Veh. Tech., IEEE ITS Mag., TRC and TRB ADC20.
He is working on BDD project "Impacts on Energy Consumption of Autonomous Vehicles in the Bay Area" with Prof. Marta Gonzalez.
