Michael Mauch
Michael Mauch
Dr. Michael Mauch is a Senior Development Engineer at UC Berkeley’s Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS) and California Partners for Advanced Transportation Technology (PATH). He supports all phases of research projects including project management, proposal writing, designing, performing technical analysis, and developing and delivering presentations, as well as being responsible for crafting complete reports of research findings. His current research collaborator at California PATH is Professor Alexander Skabardonis.
Mike specializes in transportation data analysis, project and program performance evaluations, applications programming, mathematical model building, travel demand forecasting transportation, performance metrics, and statistical analysis. In addition, Dr. Mauch has supervised and mentored junior researchers and graduate student researchers.
Dr. Mauch earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Marquette University in 1982, a B.S in Computer Science from Chapman University in 1988, a M.A. in Urban Planning from UCLA in 1996, a M.S in Civil Engineering from U.C. Berkeley in 1999 and a PhD in Civil Engineering from U.C. Berkeley in 2002. His doctoral thesis focused on identifying and quantifying the properties of start-stop waves in congested freeway traffic.

From 2002 to 2007, Dr. Mauch served as a Senior Development Engineer with UC Berkeley’s Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS) and California Partners for Advanced Transit and Highways (PATH). He also has considerable consulting experience in transportation planning and modeling. In addition, Dr. Mauch supervised and mentored junior researchers and graduate student researchers.
