Biography

Dr. Zema Katsnelson joined the PATH team in 2019 as a Program Manager for the Connected Corridors program and is currently the COO and Program Manager for the Partners for Advanced Transportation Technology (PATH) program at UC Berkeley. PATH is an interdisciplinary research program with a portfolio of active research contracts in excess of $80 million and conducts research at the leading edge of transportation sciences, including the application of artificial intelligence.

After graduating with a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy from Riga Technical University, Dr. Katsnelson worked as a Project Manager for PG&E as well as a private consultant for a diverse range of businesses. He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMI PMP), and licensed California Professional Engineer, Ph.D. in Technical Sciences. He has a proven record of success in leading innovative, mission-critical projects and programs, and a history as an adept program and project management professional. He brings hands-on technical expertise across a wide range of technologies and a robust enterprise of business knowledge to the PATH team.

Recently, Dr. Katsnelson was also selected as a UC Berkeley Excellence in Management Award recipient, nominated by his colleagues for exemplifying resilience, adaptiveness, diversity engagement, compassion, work-life balance, and morale, and for providing unparalleled support and encouragement to his staff, all of whom had to make the difficult transition to working from home in March of 2020. Throughout his career, he has been successful in building effective cross-functional teams, implementing process improvement, and employing effective methodologies. In his spare time, Dr. Katsenelson enjoys travel, hiking, history, and sports.
